Fundraising guide

When you fundraise for ADSS, you’re not just raising money – you’re creating hope, dignity and a sense of belonging for thousands of families navigating the dementia journey. Here’s our fundraising guide.

10 tips for effective fundraising

  1. Set a clear goal: Decide how much you want to raise and let people know. It gives your fundraiser focus and shows supporters exactly what you're aiming for, and why it matters.

  2. Spread the word: Use social media, email, posters: you could even tell the local paper. Share your story and tell people why you’re supporting ADSS.

  3. Don’t be afraid to ask: Most people are happy to give, especially when it’s for a cause you care about.

  4. Get people involved: Team up with friends, family, colleagues or classmates. Fundraising is more fun (and often more successful) when you do it together. You’ll reach more people and share the load.

  5. Show your progress: Post updates, photos or videos of your activity as you go. Whether it’s training for a run, baking for a sale or planning an event, let your supporters follow your journey, it helps keep them engaged and inspired to donate.

  6. Make it easy to donate: Set up a JustGiving page and include the link in all your posts and invites. The simpler it is to give, the more people will do it! Don’t forget you might need to ask people more than once.

  7. Add a personal touch: Are you fundraising in memory of someone special? Supporting a loved one living with dementia? Sharing your motivation helps people connect with your cause, and encourages them to give more generously.

  8. Boost your total: Extra activities such as raffles, games and bake sales can add to the amount raised.

  9. Celebrate and say thank you: Acknowledge every donation, big or small. A quick “thank you” message or social media shoutout goes a long way. After your fundraiser, share your final total and let people know how they helped make a difference.

  10. Ask your employer about match funding: Many companies will match what you raise, instantly doubling your impact. It’s always worth asking your HR or CSR team!

How to set up a fundraising page

An easy and effective way to spread the word and make it easy for people to donate is to set up a dedicated fundraising page online. Here’s how:

Set up a fundraising page on JustGiving or Facebook ahead of your event and select ADSS as your chosen charity.

Personalise your page with a photo, fundraising target and your reasons for choosing ADSS.

Once you have set up your page, start sharing the link with your friends, family and colleagues.
