Summary of the Role

The Dementia Support Worker is responsible for delivering high-quality, person-centred support to individuals living with dementia within their homes and communities. The role focuses on maintaining and promoting independence, dignity, and emotional well-being while reducing social isolation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide person-centred support with daily living activities, including:

  • Personal care

  • Medication administration or prompting 

  • Meal preparation

  •  Shopping

  • Domestic tasks

  • Emotional support

  • Engaging with activities or hobbies

2. Promote individual choice, autonomy, and inclusion, supporting people to maintain independence in their home and community.

3. Ensure high standards of care in line with ADSS policies and procedures, including accurate record keeping and reporting.

4. Work collaboratively with the Support at Home Team and contribute to care planning and goal setting.

5. Uphold the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of all service users at all times.

6. Participate in training, supervision, appraisals, and team meetings as required.

7. Act as a representative of ADSS, supporting the values and aims of the organisation in all professional activities.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Compassionate, empathetic, and respectful approach to supporting others

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage own schedule

  • Flexibility to work across various days and times

  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use

  • Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check (covered by ADSS)

  • Reside within or near the North Kent area

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a care or support role (formal or informal)

  • Understanding of the needs of people affected by dementia

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards it)

Additional Information Support schedules will be agreed based on employee availability provided at the start of employment. This ensures consistency for both service users and staff. Permanent support visits are assigned wherever possible.
